The Tin Kite

Artist Martin W Francis

This is a narrative symbolic work. It is based on a painting I completed many years ago. The painting was influenced by the desert artists of Western Australia. I recently decided to re-interpret the painting. The Tin Kite is about government oppression on all levels.

In my research for the painting, I learnt that Indians in the early last century used kites as a medium of protest. Kites with “Go Back, Simon” written over them were flown in the sky. From this, I found the name of the title of my painting.

I will leave the discovery of the narrative to the viewer.
